President-Elect:
Dr. Trey Cone

Trey received his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and English from Quachita Baptist University where he attended school on a track and cross country scholarship. He then became a teaching assistant and a graduate assistant track and cross country coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce where he received a Master of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology. He received his doctorate degree from the same university in the fall of 2001.

Trey has been teaching at UCO since the fall of 2001. Teaching and scholarly interests include physical education pedagogy, adapted physical education, and recreational facility management. He has presented and published numerous times on these subjects at both local and regional conferences. Most recently he has been accepted to present at the National Adapted Physical Education Conference in November.

A few of Trey’s service activities have included being the KHS major’s club sponsor, UCO Track and Field Club sponsor, NCAA Facility Athletic Representative, and venue director at the regional Special Olympics. In addition, Trey has served OAHPERD in many capacities including Adapted Physical Education Chair, Scholarship Committee Chair, and most recently, Vice-President of the General Division.

Candidacy Statement:
Thank you to the nominating committee and the board and council for demonstrating confidence in my ability to lead this great organization. If elected, I look forward to building relationships with organizations that share our desire to improve the health status among young Oklahomans. I also look forward to continuing the work of current president Chad Kinder on our Strategic Plan – the document that keeps our organization moving forward.

Stephanie has taught elementary physical education at Will Rogers for the last 4 years. While teaching at Will Rogers, she was also an adjunct instructor and National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) Activity Director at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee (2004-2005), and from 1999-2001, was an Instructor, Senior Woman Administrator, Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Senior Program Director for NYSP while at NSU. She was most recently honored as the Shawnee Teacher of the Year and is now a finalist for the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

Stephanie has an extensive grant activity vitae, including Traversing Wall of Learning, Traversing Wall of Fun, National Youth Sports Program, Walk Across America, Climbing Wall, Brain Building with Speed Stacks, and School and Community Walking Track and Beautification Project, to name a few.

Stephanie is currently serving as Vice President of the Recreation Division of OAHPERD, is a member of AAHPERD, NASPE, AAPAR, OEA, NEA, SACT, and ASCD.

Shae has been teaching at NSU for the last 19 years. Prior to her employment at NSU she was a graduate assistant in Exercise Physiology for Dr. Giese at Fort Hays State University. Her teaching and scholarly interests include health education, including coordinated school health programs and community health. She is a member of the Cherokee County Health Coalition, as well as OAHEPRD, AAHERPD, and the American Public Health Association.

Shae has presented locally, regionally and nationally and was most recently published in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (Teaching Skills and Health-Related Fitness through a Pre-service Gymnastics Program).

Debbie began her career as the physical education instructor and head volleyball coach at Edmond Memorial High School. She spent the next 16 years at Missouri Southern State University as the head volleyball coach and Associate Professor in the Kinesiology Department. Debbie has been at UCO for 4 years and has served 2 of the 4 years as the Healthy Life Skills Coordinator, and is currently the Physical Education Curriculum Coordinator.

Dan Beard

Executive Director of Heart of the Hills Salvation Army Camp & Conference Center (12 years)

Dan became passionate about experiential education through his job as Executive Director of The Salvation Army’s Heart of the Hills camp. Heart O’ Hills is an ACA accredited camp and year round conference center with a wide range of accommodations and facilities including a high and low ropes course and traversing wall. In addition to facilitating for many groups, Dan trains between 10 and 20 staff annually to operate the ropes course and to facilitate for groups attending the camp. Young campers attending the camp learn new life skills and it plants a seed in areas that they can draw on later in life. Camp is also a wonderful place to gain a greater appreciation for the outdoors.

In addition to his work with young people, Dan also serves on The Salvation Army Disaster Response Team and has participated in the relief operations on numerous disasters including the tornadoes, hurricanes, the Webbers Falls bridge collapse, and the World Trade Center.

Dan is a member of OAHPERD, AAHPERD, the American Camping Association, and is a certified pool instructor, a licensed EMT, and has completed a course in Advanced Medical Life Support.

Tim has taught physical education for Poteau Public Schools for the last 10 years. He has taught at all three levels (elementary, middle and high school) but is currently teaching elementary and middle school. He is the Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach and the Boys Head Track Coach. He is certified in First Aid and CPR.

Tim is a member of OAHPERD, The Oklahoma Track Coaches Association, and the Oklahoma Coaches Association.

Tera has been teaching at Parkview/Oklahoma School for the Blind for the last 8 years. She teaches PreK through High School Physical education and High School Math. Tera also coaches various Special Olympic Sports and Cheerleading. She was the recipient of the Healthy Schools Award and is a new member to the Schools for Healthy Lifestyles Program.

While a student at NSU, Tera was the Physical Education Majors/ Minors (PEMM) Club President, 1998, and won the NSU Student Activity Award for PEMM Club, 1998-99, and the Safe and Healthy Schools Physical Education Award, 2002.

Prior to her employment at NSU, Rhea taught elementary physical education in Jay, OK and was Jump Rope for Demonstration Team Coach and the 21st Century Grant Program Dance Instructor.

She has been teaching elementary physical education methods courses at NSU for the last 5 years. Rhea is the Club Sponsor for the Physical Education Majors and Minors Club, Program Coordinator for the Elementary School Programs in Physical Education, and the American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart Coordinator at NSU.

Rhea has presented various public school in-services and faculty development workshops for the Oklahoma Education Association Northeast Zone Day (2002-2006). She also presented “Celebration of Rhythmical Movement” during NSU’s Celebration of Teaching Workshop (2002-2006), and co-presented “Using Movement to Integrate Subject Area’s in Elementary Physical Education with a Great Expectations Twist” at the 2002 OAHPERD Convention.

Rhea was presented to the Principal’s Academy/Great Expectations in the Fall of 2006, the Educator’s Leadership Academy/Outstanding Professors’ Academy (2003-2004), Great Expectations Instructor (2000-2006), the Jay Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award (2000), and the Fall Oklahoma Arts Institute Scholarship Recipient (1998).

Rhea is a member of OAHPERD (Dance Section Chair), AAHPERD, NDA, and NASPE, and was on the Oklahoma Subject Area Test Content Advisory Committee for Dance (2004-2005).

Dana is in her 9th year of teaching, currently at Newcastle Elementary, and is a National Board Certified Teacher in Physical Education/Health. Her commitment to teaching and improving children’s health is evidenced by the awards that she has won (i.e., State Department of Education Program of Excellence and Best Practices/Fit and Healthy School/Physical Education Program, 2005; Schools for Healthy Lifestyles Physical Activity Award, 2004-2005; grant recipient and coordinator for Schools for Healthy Lifestyles Program at Western Village Academy, 2004-2007).

Dana is a past Vice President of Physical Education (OAHPERD, 2006), an assessor for National Board Certification, and Co-chair of Safe & Healthy Advisory Committee for Newcastle Elementary. She has presented at OAHPERD, attended state and national conventions, the Southern District Leadership Conference and has been a grant reader for PEP grants (to name a few). She is a member of OAHPERD, Oklahoma USATF and Action for Healthy Oklahoma Kids.

Secondary Physical Education Chair-Elect:
Frank Blair

Frank has taught for 17 years, both at elementary (13 years) and secondary level (4 years). His commitment to teaching is evidenced by the following: he was a 1999 Nominee for Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year, the winner of the 2001 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year, and the 2000, Owasso Teacher of the Year.

Frank is a member of OAHPERD, NEA, OEA, OWEA, Oklahoma Coaches Association, and the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association.

College Chair-Elect:
Ken Rose

The College of Professional and Graduate Studies includes the schools of Allied Health, Behavioral Sciences and Education, Business and Technology and Nursing. Ken has served in the past as a faculty member in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation as well as department chair of that department. He is also project administrator of an annual four million dollar grant awarded by the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA). The grant provides therapeutic adventure programming in addition to traditional education and professional counseling to eighty adjudicated juveniles in the custody of OJA. Southwestern Oklahoma State University students take part in practicum opportunities, internships and research as a part of that grant. Students also are employed in several of the programs while in college.

Robert is an Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University (first year). Prior to coming to OSU, he was the District Director of Physical Education and Athletics at Northport – East Northport School District (1996-2007) in Northport, NY and an adjunct Associate Professor at Adelphi University (1998-2007) in Garden City, NY. He has served our profession both at the High School and University level.

Robert has won many awards over the years to include (but not limited to) Suffolk Zone – Amazing Person Award, Council of Administrators, Zone Honor Award, National Council of School Administrator of Health and Physical Education Channing Mann Award – National Physical Education Director of the Year, the Eastern District Association of AAHPERD – Honor Award, Merit Award, and Presidential Medal. He also was presented the Distinguished Leadership Award from the New Jersey Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. As well as winning numerous awards, he has served on many local, regional and national boards, including NASPE and AAHPERD.
